Moisture Testing Guidance for Flooded Properties |
For Immediate Release: Wednesday, July 9, 2008
Contact: Linn County Public Health Phone: (319) 892-6000
Indoor air quality issues pertaining to the flood are of great concern to Linn County Public Health, especially as we begin the process of rebuilding an important part of our community. No laws exist currently that govern air quality inside private buildings but good guidance materials are available to conduct your construction activities in a safe and timely manner.
All workplace safety issues, including indoor air quality, should be referred to the Iowa Workforce Development, Division of Labor, Richard Anderson, (515) 281-5570.
An important indoor air quality consideration during reconstruction is to verify that the moisture levels of the materials to be recovered in your home or business are below the recommended levels. Our guidance is that wooden surfaces have moisture readings below 20% prior to replacing drywall, flooring, etc. Both Linn County Public Health and ISU Linn County Extension will be offering moisture meters for flood-affected residents to use for this purpose.
